Bayview

Located in a quiet beachside community of Los Angeles, the Bayview House is designed for a young family with two children on a sloping site with a view out towards the Pacific Ocean.

The challenge was to accommodate a generous program while maximizing views and connections to the outdoors on a relatively modest, narrow and steep lot all within a strict height limit.

Bayview

The solution was to distribute the house program on four levels. At the lower street level are the guest room and wine room. The second level accommodates the master suite. The main street level, is where the children’s wing, main entry and garage are located.

The main living space is then lifted up onto the top floor to maximize exposure to light and air and take advantage of a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean.

The material palette is kept deliberately minimal and simple, befitting this beach community, and includes shou sugi ban siding, integral color plaster and floor-to-ceiling glazing.
